School Supply List
Welcome to the Israeli school system! Navigating the school supply list (רשימת ציוד - Reshimat Tziyud) can be overwhelming for new olim, so we’ve broken down the essential vocabulary.
The Ultimate Aliyah Lifehack (if available in your local area): Take your physical list to a local store where the staff will pack all your items for you. For DIY shopping, head to Kravitz, Chanan (Jerusalem area), Max Stock or similar stores.
Some tips from veteran olim:
1.Buy school supplies a few weeks before the end of the summer when the stores are quiet--or order online!
2. If you're finding your child's תיקיות (folders) crumpled at the bottom of their backpack, but the thicker ones. (We found them at Chanan.)
3. Want to organize the little מחברות kids use in elementary school? They sell notebook folders! (It's called an אודגן למחברות.)
4. No need to bring school supplies from the USA (or wherever you make aliyah from). I thought I was being smart by doing that but a week or 2 after school started my second grader told me that he didn't want to use the Elmer's glue sticks I brought. He wanted the same brand all the other kids were using. Lesson learned!
Thanks to Naomi Billauer for her help in creating this list.
